Viewing Fish

Each year we receive requests from many visitors who may not be sport fishers but have heard about our legendary salmon runs.  So we have set up this page giving information on where visitors can see adult fish in the Chilliwack area.  Please note that the months shown in brackets are for adult fish, juvenile fish can also be viewed during other times.

Chehalis River Hatchery - 16250 Morris Valley Road, Agassiz, BC V0M 1A0

Species: Chum (Oct-Dec), Coho (Oct-Jan), Chinook (July-Nov), Steelhead and Cutthroat

Directions: From Chilliwack head eastbound on higway 1, take exit 135 off and follow highway 9 and signs to Harrison Hot Springs.  After crossing railroad tracks in downtown Agassiz highway 9 joins highway 7.  At next junction turn left to stay on highway 7 heading west towards Vancouver.  Approx 15km on the right, turn onto Morris Valley Road at the Sasquatch Inn.  Hatchery is located 10km north on the right.

Species: Chum (Nov-Dec), Coho (Oct-Dec), Chinook (Aug-Nov), Steelhead (Mar-Apr)

Directions: From highway 1 Exit 119, drive south on Vedder Road until you reach the Chilliwack River crossing.  Turn left onto Chilliwack Lake Road and follow road for 20km.  Hatchery is located at Slesse Creek, over the wooden bridge and to the left.

Species: Steelhead Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout

Directions: From Chilliwack, take highway 1 west towards Abbotsford until Exit 92, exit and turn left and head south for 2km towards the US border.  Turn right onto Vye Road.  Desination is 450m on the right.

Species: Sockeye (Oct), Chum, Pink (every other year, years ending in odd numbers)
